Aohata Jam Deck (アヲハタジャムデッキ)

Not too far from the island of Okunoshima in the Tadanoumi neighborhood of mainland Takehara lies Aohata Jam Deck, a facility where visitors can learn about the jam production process and try their hand at a jam-making experience. As Aohata is one of the jam manufacturers with a lion’s share in the domestic jarred jam market, those who participate in the workshop–which is conjoined with the factory–have the opportunity to make low-sugar jam, a product uncommon in the Western world. Besides the factory and workshop, there is also a café where diners can sip on juice made from Setoda tangerines–from which jam is also made–squeezed whole, as well as a gift shop lined with Aohata jam products.

At Aohata Jam Deck, visitors can enjoy crafting their own original jam. From the combination of fruits to the boiling down into concentrate, the instructor offers guidance on every step to make a jar of jam that exists nowhere else in the world yet is no different in quality to whatever is produced in the factory. In addition, since no reservations are necessary to utilize the café or gift shop, this place is an excellent point of interest to drop by on the way back from Okunoshima.
