Casual Japanese Eats
What do Hiroshima locals normally eat? It’s a lot more than okonomiyaki and oysters. Dig into rich, umami bowls of Japanese curry. Find fresh and affordable yet locally sourced kaiten sushi. Slurp up bowls of Sanuki udon, authentic Hakata ramen and sarashina soba. These choices are just a toe in the water, though. Wade in deeper to find crispy Edomae tempura, juicy Mochibuta tonkatsu, hearty bowls of gyūdon, steaming sukiyaki and more below. Our casual eats selection in Hiroshima is your insider on the local diet.

Marukin Honpo (○錦本舗)

Marukin Honpo specializes in steamed buns and is located on the Omotesando shopping street in Miyajima. The shop sells three kinds of steamed buns, including the popular “Hiroshima Beef Bun,” made using the finest Hiroshima beef. A number of steamers are lined up on the counter in the store, so you can enjoy freshly steamed buns at any time. Purchased steamed buns can be eaten sitting on the benches at the eaves of the store, or they can be eaten on the go.

All of the steamed buns available at Marukin Honpo are made with ingredients locally produced in Hiroshima. The beef buns are made with the highest grade of Hiroshima beef (A4 and A5), the Miyajima conger eel buns are made with conger eel caught in the sea around Miyajima, and the chicken buns are made with Hiroshima red chicken. In addition to steamed buns, the store also sells Miyajima beer, Miyajima cider, and a variety of other drinks that can only be found on Miyajima.
