Casual Japanese Eats
What do Hiroshima locals normally eat? It’s a lot more than okonomiyaki and oysters. Dig into rich, umami bowls of Japanese curry. Find fresh and affordable yet locally sourced kaiten sushi. Slurp up bowls of Sanuki udon, authentic Hakata ramen and sarashina soba. These choices are just a toe in the water, though. Wade in deeper to find crispy Edomae tempura, juicy Mochibuta tonkatsu, hearty bowls of gyūdon, steaming sukiyaki and more below. Our casual eats selection in Hiroshima is your insider on the local diet.

POP-HOT (ポポット)

In the heart of the bustling Hatchobori shopping district lies “POPHOT,” a popular eatery known for its set meals that feature creamy, runny scrambled eggs. With a cozy interior comprising only eight counter seats and eight table seats, this place is so popular there is no vacancy almost every day at lunchtime. All set meals come with steamed white rice, miso soup, and a side dish such as potato salad. Since large portions of rice are available, it is a great choice for those looking to eat until they are completely full.

Visitors to POP-HOT can enjoy their signature dish: a gooey, soft-scrambled egg creation cooked with dashi stock and your choice of filling. There are six different fillings, including pork belly, beef, or Japanese littleneck clams. Their sautéed pork is also a perennial favorite, available with a choice of five different seasonings like garlic.
