Ten Shokudo (テン食堂)

Just one block east of the Hiroden streetcar’s Tokaichi-machi stop is the new location of a diner, Ten Shokudo, that has long been a favorite in the Tokaichi area. The restaurant operates on a system where customers purchase a meal ticket from a machine inside to pay for your order, meaning only cash is accepted. However, signs explaining the ordering and serving processes are posted right next to the ticket machine with English translations included, so first-time visitors and foreign tourists can use the facility with confidence.

Ten Shokudo sports a modern, café-style interior, in contrast to the traditional Japanese fare. The menu offers a choice of around 20 main dishes—mostly Japanese homestyle favorites like kara-age chicken and mackerel simmered in miso—drawing long lines of local Hiroshima office workers during the lunch hour.
