Set Meals & Bento
Looking for an affordable or portable meal in Hiroshima? Whether in the yoshoku (western influenced) or the washoku (traditional) style, what Hiroshima set meals have in common is a distinctly Japanese sense of culinary organization at budget prices. Discover your next bento lunch of wagyu beef over rice and enjoy it on a bench under the autumn leaves along the Motoyasu River. Find a place to sit down in a time-worn, Showa-era restaurant, elbow to elbow with the locals while you enjoy a teishoku set meal featuring a Japanese hamburger steak (hambagu). Eat in or take out Japanese home cooking with our selection.

Onigiri Nitaya (おにぎり仁多屋)

Located on the western half of Hiroshima’s Hondori shopping street, “Onigiri Nitaya” is a takeout-only shop specializing in rice balls and bento (boxed lunches) made with Nita-mai—a premium rice brand from Shimane Prefecture. The spacious interior features a selection of individually wrapped rice balls and bento boxes, alongside items like green tea that pair perfectly with the rice balls. Staff members take orders and bag the items, ensuring a clean and hygienic experience.

At “Onigiri Nitaya,” customers can purchase rice balls and bento lunches made with prestigious Nita-mai—a variety of rice that has been presented to the Emperor. There is an abundant variety of fillings, ranging from traditional Japanese options like sockeye salmon and pickled plum, to Hiroshima specialties such as conger eel and pickled Hiroshima-na (mustard greens).
