okeiko Japan Miyajima (おけいこジャパン宮島)

okeiko Japan Miyajima is a cultural experience facility located on Miyajima. In a renovated old private house, you can experience a variety of Japanese traditional culture such as a tea ceremony, calligraphy, and making Japanese sweets. Depending on the experience course, it is possible to combine several experience courses into a schedule. Lectures can be given in English as well as Japanese, so even those who do not understand Japanese can enjoy experiencing Japanese culture.

At “okeiko Japan Miyajima,” there are around 15 different activites you can choose from, ranging from kimono-wearing to Japanese calligraphy-shamoji unique to Miyajima. One of the most popular activites is the tea ceremony, where you can learn how to make matcha (powdered green tea) in a kimono in a room covered with tatami mats, and learn the etiquette for serving matcha. Even those who have difficulty sitting on the floor can enjoy the experience in a comfortable position, as chairs and desks are provided.
