Five-storied Pagoda (五重塔)

The Five-storied Pagoda is a Japanese-style tower with five roofs, located adjacent to Senjokaku on Miyajima. The tower is about 30 meters high and can be seen from all sightseeing spots on Miyajima, including Itsukushima Shrine and Mt. Misen. The five-storied pagoda is known for its flamboyant Chinese-style exterior with vermilion-painted walls and pillars, which contrasts beautifully with the calm, Japanese-style exterior of the adjacent Senjokaku pavilion.

Around the five-storied pagoda, there are many trees that highlight the four seasons in Japan, such as maple trees, the symbol of Miyajima, and cherry trees. The area around the five-story pagoda is also a popular spot for taking beautiful pictures. In spring, pink cherry blossoms bloom, in summer, verdant foliage of cherry trees can be seen, in autumn, the leaves on the maple trees turn a spectacular red and yellow, and in the winter, the five-story pagoda is covered with snow, creating a fantastic sight for the eyes.
