Keima Kamaboko Store (桂馬蒲鉾商店)

Keima Kamaboko is a store on Onomichi Hondori, a short walk from JR Onomichi Station. Kamaboko is a unique Japanese food made by steaming a paste of white fish such as cod or sea bream. Keima Kamaboko sells special kamaboko products made from fresh white fish from the Seto Inland Sea. In addition to kamaboko products, they also sell fish sausages and seasoned fish balls.

The most popular item at Keima Kamaboko is the “Ishijo,” a pack of five of the store’s signature dishes, including kamaboko and chikuwa. Among them, the Komayaki kamaboko, which is shaped like a shogi (Japanese chess) game piece and the store’s namesake, is a gem that is hand-baked by skilled craftsmen one-by-one every day. You can enjoy the elegant sweetness of the white fish itself in this kamaboko. In addition to the standard kamaboko products, there are also many limited-time kamaboko products available for the spring, summer, autumn and winter seasons.
