Otake Washi Workshop (大竹和紙工房)

Otake Washi Workshop is a washi (Japanese-style paper) producer located in Otake City, next to Hatsukaichi City, where Miyajima is located. Otake City has had a thriving washi-making industry for about 400 years and is famous for its handmade “Tesuki Washi.” The Otake Washi Workshop sells washi individually handmade by craftsmen, and sells washi letter-sets as well. At different times, the washi-making process is open to the general public, and you can try your hand in making washi yourself.

At the Otake Washi Workshop, you can try your hand at making washi paper using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Using plants such as Kouzo and Mitsumata (the raw materials for washi), you can make your own unique sheet of Otake Washi. It makes for a unique, personalized souvenir.
