Taiyakiya Yoshio (鯛焼屋 よしお)

Taiyakiya Yoshio is a beloved taiyaki shop in Akiota Town in Hiroshima Prefecture’s northwesterly Yamagata District. Boasting a history that dates back to 1970, this humble confectionary store attracts people from well outside Akiota, and on days off from work, lines can form and snake. Besides taiyaki, they also sell takoyaki, ice cream, jams, and homemade lemon soda.

Taiyaki Yoshio recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020, and to commemorate such a milestone, there are special hand towels for sale featuring their red bean-filled fish pastry mascot. The establishment has managed to garner quite a following in all its years of operation, so there are many other goods besides the towels, like T-shirts, pencil cases, and handbags. Why not pick up a piece of merchandise along with a box of ten frozen taiyaki to enjoy in the comfort of your own home?
