Mancho Plum Grove (満汐梅林)
Mancho Plum Grove, which is nestled in the mountainous region of Mihara City, is a spot where tourists can experience hanami with plum blossoms, plum picking, and other enjoyable activities. Every March, during prime plum blossom season, some 1,000 trees on the garden grounds reach full bloom, and countless visitors come here to for the feeling that spring is on its way. When the plum fruits ripen in June, visitors can pick plums off the trees and partake in workshops that allow them to manufacture products such as jam or juice with the plums they just picked (reservations required for workshops).
Moment of Joy
When the plum blossoms are in full bloom at Mancho Plum Grove, guests can enjoy a “Japanese-style picnic” by eating bento boxed lunches or onigiri (rice balls) while taking part in a plum blossom “hanami,” or flower-viewing party. Furthermore, as the plum trees cultivated here are grown in a gentle, natural environment, the fruit borne of these trees are certified as a Special Cultivated Agricultural Product by Hiroshima Prefecture, and thus are perfectly good to eat. At the gift shop, sake and sweets made from the plums on site are sold, and many tourists buy them to take home as souvenirs.
