Momijido Flagship Store (紅葉堂本店)
Momijido Honten is a Japanese confectionery shop located on the island of Miyajima. It has been making its famous Momiji Manju for over 100 years since its establishment in the early 20th century. The deep-fried Momiji Manju, which was first introduced in 2001, has been trendy and has become a traditional gourmet food for Miyajima visitors.
Moment of Joy
Momijido Honten offers two gourmet specialties: Steamed Momiji Manju and Fried Momiji Manju. The most popular are the deep-fried Momiji Manju, which is made by turning Momiji Manju into tempura. By deep-frying the fluffy sponge cake dough of Momiji Manju, you can enjoy the crunchy texture on the outside and a soft, tender inside. There are a total of five flavors to choose from, including the standard anko (sweet, mashed red bean paste), cheese, Setouchi lemon, and others. The Fried Momiji Ice Cream, which combines the fried Momiji Manju with vanilla soft-serve ice cream, is also very popular.
