Mancho Farm Seaside Fig Picking Experience (万汐農園海辺いちじく狩り体験)
Manchou Farm is a tourist attraction located on Mukaijima, the closest island to Onomichi on the Shimanami Kaido cycling route. The fruits produced at the farm include figs, plums, and Saijo persimmons. In particular, the figs, for which Onomichi is known as a major production area, are grown using pesticide-free farming methods, and are characterized by their sweet and soft flesh. The season for picking figs is from mid-August to mid-November, when figs are in season.
The harvested figs can be eaten on the spot. If you can’t eat them all, there is also an option to buy them by weight (reservation only). A hands-on course for making jam and juice is also available.
Moment of Joy
At the Manshio Farm (Seaside Fig Farm), you can enjoy the Japanese variety of figs called “Sawae,” for which Onomichi is famous. You can taste freshly-picked figs that are juicier and fresher than the ones you can buy in stores. Figs that you can’t finish in time can be bought separately by the gram, and you can take them back to your hotel (don’t leave any uneaten). You can also enjoy making jam or juice from figs during your visit.
