Schmoe House (シュモ－ハウス)

Schmoe House is an Atomic-bomb related facility located in Eba, Hiroshima. Mr. Floyd Schmoe, who was an American lecturer at the University of Washington, built houses for the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki who had lost their homes and were forced to live in hardship due to the damage caused by the atomic bomb. The existing Schmoe House in Eba is one of the buildings built by Mr. Schmoe, and currently displays a variety of materials that were sent from overseas to help support the people of Hiroshima after the bombing.

At the “Schmoe House” in Eba, you can find on display many materials related to the support for Hiroshima that were sent from all over the world after the bombing, as well as materials related to Mr. Schmoe’s activities in Hiroshima. Visitors can learn how the people of Hiroshima walked the path of recovery. In addition, the exterior of the building was designed completely by Schmoe, and today remains almost unchanged from the time he built it. Some parts of the building are even still made of the same materials as when it was built.
