Gyoka (漁火)

Gyoka is a Japanese restaurant inside Kinoe Onsen Hotel Seifukan, a ryokan on Osakikamijima. It’s a restaurant popular with tourists where one can indulge in unique and traditional Japanese surf and turf specialties made with ingredients harvested on or around Osakikamijima. This means being able to enjoy not only fresh sea bream and squid caught off the coast of the island, but also dishes incorporating mushrooms and edible wild plants found on Osakikamijima as well.

At Gyoka, guests can partake in the “blessings of the sea and mountains” from Osakikamijima that are used in Japanese dishes here. The best item among these would be the whitefish sashimi of fish like the sea bream, which is served up in a grandiose fashion on a platter, which includes the head and tail. Sashimi prepared in this fashion is loved in Japan as a dish for celebrations. Other than that, the restaurant also serves up set meals featuring Osakikamijima shiitake mushrooms, of which more are harvested here than anywhere else in the prefecture, as well as sushi rolls for when one is only slightly peckish.
