Hiroshima Nature Tour
An itinerary for those who want to enjoy the wonder that both the seaside and the mountainside of Hiroshima have to offer.
Day 1
01 Hiroshima Station (広島駅)
Hiroshima Station is the bustling transportation hub of our peaceful city, and one of the principal entertainment hubs as well. All JR lines in the city stop here, and from here, people can take numerous buses and streetcars anywhere in the city, or even out of town. The ekie shopping complex located inside the station building also has no shortage of restaurants and souvenir shops to keep visitors busy for hours.

Transportation: Mominoki Forest Park [Rental Car, ~80 minutes]
02 Mominoki Forest Park (もみのき森林公園)
Mominoki Forest Park is an outdoor facility located in Yoshiwa, Hatsukaichi City. The park covers an area of approximately 400 hectares, with camping sites and cycling paths scattered throughout the forest. From spring to autumn, visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as camping and barbecues, while in winter, skiing and sledding can be done using the natural snow. The facility also occasionally holds workshops that teach you how to make small items using branches and scraps of wood from the forest.

03 Forest Adventure Hiroshima (フォーレストアドベンチャー・広島)
Forest Adventure is an athletic facility located in the Mominoki Forest Park. Two athletic courses of varying difficulty are set up in the forest, where visitors can play with a variety of athletic equipment in the great outdoors of Yoshiwa, Hatsukaichi. Both courses, the Adventure Course and the Canopy Course, can be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages, however for children height restrictions do apply.

Day 2
01 Miwaku no Sato (魅惑の里)
Miwaku no Sato is a leisure facility in Yoshiwa, Hatsukaichi City, where you can enjoy the rich nature of the area that will appeal to all of the five senses. The vast grounds in a corner of the mountain are dotted with hot springs, a campground, and a barbecue house, allowing visitors to enjoy spending time in nature in a way that cannot be experienced by remaining in the city. Of course, you can pitch your tent at a camping site and enjoy the outdoors, or you can also stay in a hotel or a cabin, complete with bedding and towels, and enjoy the luxury of glamping (glamorous camping)!

Transportation: Irori Sanzoku Kuga [Rental Car, ~80 minutes]
02 Irori Sanzoku Kuga (いろり山賊 玖珂)
Irori Sanzoku Kuga is a Japanese restaurant located about a 9-minute walk from Kinmeiji Station on the JR Gantoku Line. There are three eateries (Irori Sanzoku, Kamado, and Tori-an) on the vast premises, and the three restaurants are surrounded by gorgeous festive decorations. The concept of the restaurant is “mountain bandit,” which is also the name of the restaurant. You can enjoy a wide variety of dishes such as wild teriyaki chicken right off the bone as if eaten by bandits and giant rice balls as big as your face!

Transportation: Kintai Bridge [Rental Car, ~25 minutes]
03 Kintai Bridge (錦帯橋)
Kintai Bridge is a tourist attraction in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Iwakuni City is the closest city to Hiroshima in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and it takes about 45 minutes from JR Hiroshima Station to JR Iwakuni Station. The Kintai Bridge is a massive 20-meter long wooden bridge built in 1674, consisting of five arches and four pillars. It is a wooden bridge with five arches and four pillars. The beauty of the Kintai Bridge has been well known since its construction, and was even depicted by ukiyoe artist Katsushika Hokusai. Today, the area around Kintai Bridge is a tourist attraction, where you can enjoy various sightseeing experiences such as a sightseeing boat ride where you can admire Kintai Bridge from the river, or a cormorant fishing trip where you can watch traditional sweetfish fishing using cormorants from a boat.

04 Kikko Park (吉香公園)
Kikko Park is a wide-open green space situated northwest of Kintaikyo. Facing the northwest end of the bridge is a statue of the park’s namesake, Kikkawa Hiroyoshi (吉川 広嘉), the third lord of Iwakuni under whose oversight Kintaikyo was completed. Scattered around the grassy area are shops and restaurants selling souvenirs, soft serve ice cream, Iwakuni-style pressed sushi, and more. The prevalance of benches means visitors can easily find a seat to relax and have a bite while enjoying the great outdoors.
There are stunning flowers in spring and radiant foliage in autumn, but in summer, it can get deathly hot. The fountains further into the park help ameliorate the sweltering conditions by providing spaces where both children and adults can cool off and play in the water, with some even having swimsuits ready underneath their clothes just for this feature. In addition, Kikko Park is surrounded by the remnants of residences belonging to lords past, as well as by museums like the Iwakuni Art Museum and White Snake Museum that offer insight into yesteryear’s way of life.

01 Iwakuni Kokusai Kanko Hotel (岩国国際観光ホテル)
The Iwakuni Kokusai Kanko Hotel is a luxurious resort located right by Kintai Bridge. The rooms are mostly Japanese-style with tatami mats, but Western-style single and twin rooms are also available. The hotel sports hot springs, a restaurant, and a bar, all of which can be enjoyed by overnight guests and day trippers alike.

02 Itsukushima Shrine (厳島神社)
Itsukushima Shrine is a famous shrine located on the island of Miyajima within the city limits of Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture. Itsukushima Shrine was initially built in the year 593, but it was not until the year 1168 that the military leader Taira no Kiyomori rebuilt the shrine into its present magnificent state. The gods enshrined at the shrine are known as the Munakata Sanjojin. (Three Goddesses of Munakata) They are believed to have power over maritime safety, fishing, traffic safety, and business prosperity. In 1996, Itsukushima Shrine was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Atomic Bomb Dome.

03 Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street (宮島表参道商店街)
The Omotesando shopping street is the main street of Miyajima, with many souvenir stores, cafés, and restaurants. On weekends and holidays the street becomes crowded with tourists, as there are many nearby tourist attractions like Itsukushima Shrine or Senjokaku five-storied pagoda. There are many stores lined along the street where you can and walk around, eat and enjoy many specialties such as “agemomiji,” which are deep-fried momiji manju, and “anago chikuwa,” which is grilled conger eel fish paste on a (traditionally bamboo but now cardboard) tube.

04 Miyajima Public Aquarium (宮島水族館)
The Miyajima Aquarium is the only aquarium on Miyajima Island, and is a popular tourist spot for both domestic and international visitors. The aquarium is divided into 15 areas, where you can see the rare fish and aquatic creatures that live in the Seto Inland Sea, where Miyajima is located. A sea lion show is held every day in a special pool outside the facility. Watch the sea lions perform tricks, see their powerful jumps and experience a great view as you watch them swim up close.
