MCAS Iwakuni Friendship Day on May 3rd!
Craving to step onto US soil while in Japan? Look no further than the US Marine Corps base in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi. For only one day every Golden Week (May 3rd this year, but on other days in past years), the base opens up to the public to showcase the splendor of Uncle Sam’s aircraft as well as demonstrate the amity between Japan and the United States military personnel. There are rows of stalls selling international cuisine and American paraphernalia, so visitors–Japanese or otherwise–can feel the cultural exchange while marveling at acrobatic airplanes and other vehicles that grace the skies with their mad skills. Of course, some military vehicles can also be toured or ridden for a commemorative photo with the US Marines. If there is a time to visit Iwakuni during one’s stay in Hiroshima, Golden Week is one of the top times to do so!
