Hiroshima’s Third Line of Defense is (Partially) Up!

Hiroshima Castle has traditionally had two lines of defense since its most recent reconstruction, but as of last month, the San no Maru (“third bailey”), a tiny commercial complex outside the castle moat, is now up and running! There’s a gift shop, a café, two restaurants, and the Sharaku Japanese archery range, which up until recently was located on Hondori. The San no Maru Museum and Multi-purpose Event Space are still under construction, though, slated to open in 2027.
