Get Greedy with Grapes and Apples in Miyoshi Through November!

‘Tis the season for picking grapes and apples Hirata Tourist Farm in Miyoshi, set to run until the end of November! This time of year, three different plans are concurrently available for visitors: Chodo-gari, Tabehoudai, and Chotto-gari.

Chodo-gari (ちょうど狩り – “picking just the right amount”), which lasts until mid-November, is a system in which customers buy a certain number of tickets beforehand (the price per tickets depends on whether the customer visits on a weekday or holiday as well as how many were bought at once) and exchange them for fruits of their choice. Every kind of fruit has a different ticket cost, so do make sure to confirm the rates at Hirata Tourist Farm on the day of your visit before you start picking. It may sound limiting on the surface, but for reference, the fruit in the picture above is what can be redeemed for only 27 tickets (11 from the kids’ plan and 16 from a standard adult plan)! You can take home all that fruit and enjoy it with your loved ones at your own pace.

Then you have the standard Tabehoudai (食べ放題 – “all-you-can-eat”) plan, which available year-round. Customers pay a flat fee up front to pick a single type of fruit (right now, it’s apples) and then pick and eat as many apples as they can on site. This plan is great for those with big stomachs who love a certain kind of fruit and intend to get their money’s worth, but the drawbacks are the lack of variety and the inability to take home any fruit without paying extra.

Finally, we have Chotto-gari (ちょっと狩り – “pick a little bit”), which means exactly how it translates. There’s virtually no description on their website, but we surmise it must refer to paying a fee that’s less than the Tabehoudai fee to pick a set amount of the specified fruit (in fall, that would be pione grapes or apples) to take home and enjoy.

Regardless of the plan you choose, we hope you can spend an awesome autumn afternoon in the countryside of northeastern Hiroshima Prefecture and reap the fruity harvest of fall!
