Atomic Bombing’s 80th Anniversary in One Month!

T-minus 30 days until the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, and this year will mark the 80th anniversary. The first atomic bomb ever used [on humans] in history detonated above Hiroshima City on August 6th, 1945, a date that will forever be ingrained into the minds of Hiroshimarians. Although the bulk of the observances will take place on the 6th, some events, such as the Atomic Bomb Victim Memorial Ceremony held inside Shukkeien, will be held as early as August 1st. If tourists are in Hiroshima City on the evening of the 6th, they have a chance to write a message on a paper lantern to float down the Momoyasu River. The sight of everyone’s glowing lanterns meandering down the river from a nearby bridge is one people won’t soon forget.
