Michael Farrell

Michael Farrell is a reporter and editor who began traveling the world in 2010. His publishing career started in New England, first at the Gloucester Daily Times and later as a copy editor with boutique publisher Hawthorn Publications. He lived in South Korea and Costa Rica before settling with his family in Hiroshima in 2016, bringing an international lens to his work.

With a passion for anthropology and the subtleties of history, Michael prefers to avoid resorts and luxury travel, valuing authentic experiences that connect him with the lives of ordinary people. He finds that people, place, and timing often matter more than the activity itself, and these connections shape his approach to travel. With a background in photography and videography, the visual medium gives him a canvas to communicate the fullness of a moment that can get overlooked by words alone.

When he isn’t cutting a new video or interviewing business owners, his happy place is beside one of Hiroshima’s many rivers with a salad in one hand and an ice cream in the other or floating in the bottomless quiet of Hiroshima Peace Cathedral.
