Iikagen-ya Hiroshima Store (いいかげんや広島支店)
On one corner of Namiki Street, where stylish brand stores and popular cafés are lined up, lies the Iikagenya Hiroshima Store, a yakitori specialty shop where one can indulge in traditional, charcoal-grilled chicken on a stick. While there are naturally classic choices like “negima,” where bite-size pieces of chicken leg meat and white leeks are alternately skewered, there are also a variety of local chicken specialties of Miyazaki Prefecture–such as charcoal-grilled chicken drumsticks–that can be enjoyed. There are also different kinds of sake from many parts of Hiroshima Prefecture in their alcohol lineup.

Moment of Joy
The chicken served at the Iikagenya Hiroshima Store is “Choshu Herb Chicken,” which is a brand of chickens that were raised on a diet of herbs in the wide-open pastures of Yamaguchi Prefecture. On top of the already invigorating flavor of Herb Chicken, which is grilled using high-grade ubame oak charcoal, the chicken skin obtains a crispy texture due to the effects of the charcoal’s infrared radiation, which seals the juices inside the meat. Customers can partake in a masterpiece of yakitori that’s crunchy on the outside and juicy within.
