Kure Kamagari Observatory (呉市かまがり天体観測館)
The Kure Kamagari Observatory is an observatory located at the Civic Beach (Kenmin-no-hama) recreation facility on Kamagari Island. It is situated right next to the beach, and it is one of the few observatories in the world where you can look into the night sky while listening to the gentle sound of the waves of the Seto Inland Sea. The observatory is equipped with one of Japan’s largest telescopes, the 42cm Maxtov Telescope, and the 20cm and 35cm Reflector Telescopes, so you can look into galaxies far far away.

Moment of Joy
At the Kure Kamagari Observatory, regular stargazing sessions are held every Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. You can observe a multitude of objects in space while listening to explanations from the staff on each object. The museum also holds various other events, such as seasonal stargazing events, which you can easily participate in (for a fee). On clear, moonless nights, you can also gaze at the starry sky from the Star Plaza (astronomical observation deck).
