Flame of Peace (平和の灯)
The “Flame of Peace” is a monument that can be found in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. A flame burns at the center of a stone platform shaped like a pair of hands, and will continue to burn until “the day nuclear weapons disappear from the earth.” Now, more than 75 years after the end of World War II, it has become a tourist spot visited by people from all over the world as a symbol of peace and opposition to nuclear weapons.
Moment of Joy
The “Flame of Peace” is located at the back of the arched shaped Atomic Bomb Victims Memorial, and is an iconic symbol of Peace Memorial Park. It is visible to all those who come to visit the memorial. The Atomic Bomb Dome, a World Heritage Site, can be seen further back, and is known as one of the tourist spots where many tourists from all over the world still offer their prayers more than 75 years after the end of the Second World War.
