Kimita Kobushi no Mori Origami Museum (君田こぶしの森体験の館・折り紙博物館)

The Origami Museum is a museum about origami in Miyoshi City’s Kimita Onsen town. Origami is a traditional Japanese children’s pastime in which paper is folded to make shapes such as animals and characters. The Origami Museum displays more than 150 original origami works of all genres, such as Sailor Moon and Japanese dolls, mainly created by Kenji Akagi, an origami artist certified as a “Master of Creative Origami” by Miyoshi City.

The appeal of the Origami Museum is the wide range of exhibits that can be enjoyed even by those who have never seen origami before. In addition to traditional origami motifs such as Japanese dolls and animals, there are also origami works of anime characters that are popular in the West, such as Sailor Moon, Gundam, and Gegege no Kitaro, as well as origami dioramas that recreate scenes from fairy tales, such as Cinderella. Furthermore, as the museum is located in a hot spring town, a trip here is best combined with an overnight stay at the Mori no Izumi hot spring resort.
