Hiroshima University Museum (広島大学総合博物館)

The Hiroshima University Museum is a museum situated on the Higashihiroshima campus of Hiroshima University. Materials related to fields being researched at Hiroshima University–such as archaeology, astronomy, and biology–are put on display so that visitors can get to know Hiroshima’s ecosystems, archaeology, and even the life and habits of the Japanese giant salamander in great detail. What’s more, all exhibits within the museum can be viewed for free with an advance reservation, so even those not affiliated with the university are allowed in.

Not just the museum interior, but the surroundings of the building are considered an “ecomuseum” of sorts. Because of that, the rich nature of the entire premises of Hiroshima University is put on display using the museum building as a central hub for exhibition. Of note among said exhibitions is the space for frogs and the Japanese giant salamander in the Amphibian Research Center. Visitors can enjoy the exhibitions detailing the latest research on these amphibians.
