Casual Japanese Eats
What do Hiroshima locals normally eat? It’s a lot more than okonomiyaki and oysters. Dig into rich, umami bowls of Japanese curry. Find fresh and affordable yet locally sourced kaiten sushi. Slurp up bowls of Sanuki udon, authentic Hakata ramen and sarashina soba. These choices are just a toe in the water, though. Wade in deeper to find crispy Edomae tempura, juicy Mochibuta tonkatsu, hearty bowls of gyūdon, steaming sukiyaki and more below. Our casual eats selection in Hiroshima is your insider on the local diet.

Masui Meat (肉のますゐ)

Situated in Hiroshima’s prominent entertainment district of Hatchobori, “Niku no Masui” is a meat specialty restaurant directly operated by a butcher shop. Customers can enjoy meat dishes such as sukiyaki, steak, and fried beef cutlets at reasonable prices that only a butcher shop can offer. The restaurant has two floors and features a retro interior that evokes Japan between the 1970s to the 1980s.

NOTE: Reservations will incur a separate 10% seating fee.

At “Niku no Masui,” one can enjoy over 60 kinds of meat dishes in a restaurant with an atmosphere that creates the illusion of a time slip back to Showa-era Japan. Their sukiyaki is especially popular, and customers can enjoy a sukiyaki meal that fits their tastes, from class beef, pork, and chicken sukiyaki to the winter-exclusive oyster sukiyaki.
