Casual Japanese Eats
What do Hiroshima locals normally eat? It’s a lot more than okonomiyaki and oysters. Dig into rich, umami bowls of Japanese curry. Find fresh and affordable yet locally sourced kaiten sushi. Slurp up bowls of Sanuki udon, authentic Hakata ramen and sarashina soba. These choices are just a toe in the water, though. Wade in deeper to find crispy Edomae tempura, juicy Mochibuta tonkatsu, hearty bowls of gyūdon, steaming sukiyaki and more below. Maruchu Shoten (丸忠商店)

Maruchu Shoten, a ramen restaurant located a 7-minute walk from JR Fukuyama Station, has earned a reputation as one of the best noodle shops in Fukuyama. At Maruchu Shoten, you can enjoy ramen noodles in a seafood-based soup with a hint of shrimp broth. Unlike ramen made with pork or chicken broth, Maruchu Shoten offers ramen with a light and appealing taste.

The most popular menu item at Maruchu Shoten is the “Soy Sauce-Flavored Ramen (Extra Meat),” which is lined with char siu pork that protrudes from the bowl and covers the soup. In addition to the visual impact, the combination of the light seafood soup and the gooey pork char siu is highly rated by word of mouth as an addictive combination. Maruchu Shoten also offers a seasonal oyster ramen with five oysters in it, in addition to its standard ramen.
