Ryoko no Tomo (旅行の友)
Ryoko no Tomo (Travel Friend) is a furikake (flavored sprinkles for rice) and musubi (rice ball) shop located in the etto shopping mall near the Miyajima pier. All of the musubi sold at Ryoko no Tomo use furikake made by Tanaka Foods, a long-established furikake maker in Hiroshima that has been in business for over 100 years. You can buy musubi with colorful furikake made from sockeye salmon and green vegetables. The store also sells furikake products such as “Ryoko no Tomo,” which has long been loved by the people of Hiroshima Prefecture, as well as products made in collaboration with Hello Kitty.
Moment of Joy
Ryoko no Tomo sells “Ryoko no Tomo Bento,” a boxed lunch containing three flavors of rice balls. The store also offers furikake products such as furikake to be eaten on salads and “Ryoko no Tomo,” which has become a staple of Hiroshima dining tables. In Japan, furikake is usually eaten over steamed white rice, but recently, it has become popular to apply it in various dishes, such as tossing it with boiled pasta or pouring it over vegetable salads.
