At the Koyuda Makeup Brush Workshop in Kumano Town, one can enjoy touring the factory where Kumano brushes–which differ depending on the crafstman–are made, as well as taking part in an experience where participants make a one-of-a-kind Kumano brush that is exclusively theirs. The factory tour (free of charge) takes about 15 minutes, and the brush-making experience (starting at ¥1,100) takes only 45 minutes, which means that tourists can enjoy both attractions easily in a relatively short span of time. Visitors can also purchase Koyudo’s Kumano brush products such as the heart-shaped cheek brush from the store attached to the factory.

At the Koyudo Makeup Brush Workshop, one can come to know the “Kumano Brush,” a specialty product of Hiroshima, through the factory tour and the brush-making experience. In the especially popular brush-making experience, participants can try their hand at making brushes of various kinds and sizes, like a round brush tip shaped like a rose. Because it’s possible to engrave words such as one’s own name (English names compatible) into the brush handle, the Kumano brush is recommended as a souvenir of one’s trip to Hiroshima.
