NHK Hiroshima Broadcasting Center Heart Plaza (NHK広島放送局 ハートプラザ)

The NHK Hiroshima Broadcasting Center Heart Plaza is a hands-on facility owned by NHK (the Japan Broadcasting Corporation) that is located only a few minutes’ walk from Peace Memorial Park. Inside the building, visitors can imitate the weather forecast at the “Weather Caster Experience,” pretend to be an announcer at the “Virtual Studio,” and learn about television broadcasting in Japan from a wide array of hands-on zones. Since there is also a spot to take photos with characters from NHK original kids’ television programs, it is also a popular place to bring one’s children.

At the NHK Hiroshima Broadcasting Center Heart Plaza, visitors can have a blast participating in a variety of experiences that utilize the latest virtual reality technology and other techniques employed in television broadcasting via places like the “Weather Caster Experience.” At the “Prepare for Disasters” corner, ideas on disaster preparedness in those what-if moments and information on how NHK deals with earthquakes and typhoons in a country where they are prevalent are introduced on panels. Additionally, one can view a select number past programs aired on NHK within Japan and abroad inside the building.
