Kure Hi Kara Shokudou

The Kure Hi Kara Shokudou is a café-restaurant located about a three-minute walk from Kure Station. The restaurant is reminiscent of the inside of a submarine and offers a variety of dishes such as Kure’s famous “Maritime Curry.” The Kure Hi Kara Shokudou serves the same curry served on the Sōryū-class submarines, which was originally a weekend dinner for submarine crews.

At the Kure Hi Kara Shokudou, you can enjoy Western dishes such as omelet rice and teriyaki chicken, as well as the famous “Kaiji Curry” (Maritime Curry), which is still eaten by active submarine crews. The most popular menu item is the Kaiji Curry, and you can eat it in the restaurant or buy a package to take home and cook as a souvenir. At the restaurant, the curry is served on metal plates and with utensils just as it is served on board the submarines.
